Super Sunday... my 2 cents
By Joseph S. Bonsall

I hate the week off between Championship games and the BIG BOWL. I have actually ignored most of it for seven days now. I am weary of talking heads… talking about who will win and WHY… and what T.O is doing and Freddie Mitchell is saying… and what Tom Brady is having for breakfast!

I am READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!!!!!!!! LET’S KICK IT OFF!!!

The Oak Ridge Boys just arrived home from two shows at Purdue University in Lafayette IN (which was a blast, by the way), and I will spend the afternoon far and AWAY from the TV and the pre-game hypefest. I will be taking my grandkids to the IMAX to see “ALIENS FROM THE DEEP," which is a way down deep undersea documentary directed by James Cameron.

BIG FISH ON A BIG SCREEN.

For some reason, Breanne and Luke have this thing about FISH!!! They love them, however, I have yet to persuade them to munch on a piece of raw TUNA like POP POP does! By the time we get a bite to eat at the Rainforest Café, or some such place, and get back home, it should be about time for KICK OFF.

My daughter Jen and her husband DAN... ARE THERE!! I managed to obtain some great tickets for them through the Florida Legislature; therefore I AM … DADDY OF THE UNIVERSE right now. My other daughter Sabrina just called and said, “ When you come to pick up the kids, PLEASE bring me an EAGLES jersey or a hat or SOMETHING!”

I will be happy to do that! We need all of the help we can get!!

A quick bit of history. The Eagles last won a championship in 1960 (against the Lombardi Packers in Franklin Field). Can you say BEDNARIK? I was there with my father! Since then the team has been to just ONE Super Bowl, in 1981, and got creamed by the RAIIIDDEEEEZZZ!!

So.... on this 39th SUPER SUNDAY (I hate Roman numerals), I have already placed my Eagles helmet on the TV. Later on, I will wear my Eagles shirt, while I sit on my Eagles blanket. I will eat snacks, courtesy of Mary, and I will cheer long and hard for the team of my childhood to beat the mighty Patriots.

Hey... it could happen, if they do NOT turn the ball over and if the defense can contain...... whooooppss! I am sounding like a talking head.

Anyhow, it would be a great win, INDEED, for the fighting city of Brotherly Love. (Oxymoron? You bet it is!)

So FLY, EAGLES FLY!!!!! PLEASE!!!!

(JSB)!

Addendum: Alas, not good enough. Patriots win, 24-21. That seems to always be the bottom line for Philadelphia sports teams. Since Doctor J took the NBA
Seventy Sixers to a championship over the Lakers in 1983... runner up... or worse... LOSER… has been the bottom line for decades in Philly. It is a good thing we Philly folks are a tough bunch! Oh, the Eagles played admirably well against, what surely must be one of the finest football franchises of the modern era. However, much like the 1993 Phillies or several different NHL Flyer teams or even Alan Iverson's Sixers of a couple of years ago… close, but NO CIGARILLO.

Thank God we had Rocky Balboa!

I would like to mention the incredible heart of Terrell Owens and McNab was pretty good, as well. The fourth best yardage amount in Super Bowl history.
One could go on and on and pick it all apart and many will, however, your author will just say, “Hey, great game... hats off to The PATS… and quite frankly, the best team won!!

I know that all is joy in heaven, but somewhere in a corner up there, if God allowed her to watch it, my mother Lillie is taking the loss hard. Heck, she took every Eagle loss hard and there have been many.

Sorry MA... but YO... there is always next year. Like the ad says... ‘WE ARE ALL 0-0 NOW!’ EVEN THE TITANS!!!

So, I have taken my Eagles blanket down from the couch, put away my helmet and jacket and shirts, that were strewn all over the den like a shrine! Time for bed. Football season is over and there is just one Championship team when all is said and done............ and it is NOT my EAGLES.

I’ll tell you one thing though, that big IMAX fish movie today was really good!
